Incidents in your credit history expire after 7 years, I think.

And, yes, all phone companies are evil.

I think your best bet would be to contact your local police station after you’ve written out a timeline of events, a small statement/summary of what really happened, and then let them know what you are trying to do.

Phone companies are crap to deal with. We had to pay for a month of service which a) we never got, becuase they (Telus) doesn’t serve our area and 2) was supposed to be free.

Damn companies.

I’m a member of a cell phone nerd site that’s known as http://www.3gupload.com . On this site, two members (that I know of) work for Sprint. If anyone can help you, they can. Look around in the forums there, particularly the Sprint one.

Hope I could help.

The credit company I worked for worked like this, maybe this will help you.

1. We would buy the (your) bad debt, from say sprint. If you owed spint 90$ we would say, ok - I’ll give you 30$ to pay off the account. Sprint would take it, becaus they figure it to be a loss. They write off your account. Then we would try to collect 90 from you.. giving us a profit of 60$. This is most likely why:
"138-76 DOES NOT EQUAL 98." If the credit company bought your bad debt from sprint for like 5 bucks, anything they charge you above 5 bucks, they make profit on.

2. We worked on the percentage we were able to get back from the bad debt.

I’m guessing sprint has written your account off as a loss, a new credit company came in and bought off some of their bad debt, and are trying to make some fast cash.

My Advice? You are already on the right track. DO get any writing from Sprint that you don’t owe them money. They will hassle you… If it turns out you don’t owe any money, sprint will have to refund the money to the collection agency that the agency paid for the right for the bad debt. It’s like they lose money twice. Sprint won’t talk to the collection agency for you.. You’ll probably have to send them the signed letter.

Good Luck
