So as of late I’ve been staying up really late fixing up the server for the guys that run entityhosting.com. This has horribly horribly screwed up my sleep schedule, leaving me often up and awake watching tv.
Often when I’m stuck up alone my brain just tends to ’spool’. Sometimes I think of it as the way fractal images are generated. You give a fractal generator an algebra expression and it generates images. Its pretty neat when you sit down and do it a few times. I just lastnight watched ‘The girl next door’ with Elisha Cuthbert, and for some reason a certain practice came into my head. Expressing to people that they are appreciated. It usually helps if they’ve done something, but even so letting someone know theyre doing a good job is very uplifting. I know that it made ME feel good when I was at work and a customer I had spend 3 hours with would ask “Hey, whats your managers email address? I want to write them and tell them you did an excellent job”.
After finishing the movie (at approx 6am) i said to myself “Yanno.. I dont do enough of this.” So I’ve decided to start a crusade. The first thing I did was pick up my phone and send and SMS to my girlfriend telling her I love her. Im sure her getting an sms from me of all people around 7:30 or so in the morning was somewhat confusing (*snicker*). Next I moved onto the next immediate person in my short term memory, Elisha Cuthbert. Most of you know her as Kim from 24, but she was recently in the film ‘The Girl Next Door’. (which by the way i read as of two weeks ago, the administration is being sued or something because they used the same title as a documentary about a porn actress who quit doing porn). The first thing I did was establish what it was I was trying to do : Send a message to Elisha Cuthbert in some form letting her know that I was a fan, and that I thought after 3 seasons of 24, and her new movie she was doing an excellent job, and to keep up the good work. Bullet point 1: How not to come across as a stalker or a pscyho fan of some sort. Im not obsessed with her, nor am I expecting some sort of gracious treatment. I only want to drop her a line to tell her good work. Bullet point two: Does she even have a portal for fanmail or anything of that nature? The answer to that is no. After about two hours of digging around looking for a place that had ANY kind of solid info, that didnt promise poorly doctored naked pictures, desktops, sexy this or that and just ONE PEICE of actual tangible usable information, suprised it didnt come up in a previous search was elisha-cuthbert.com (go figure it’d be the last place i’d check eh?). Its run by a fan, and he listed her agencys mailing address. Looks like thats the *ONLY* way to send her anything really, is care of her agency. They even have instructions (with pictures, mind you!) on how to send a self addressed stamped envelope if you want pictures signed or whatnot.
Okay then, the battle has been won! I was satisfied for about three minutes, and then I thought.
“aw fuck.. am i gonna have to do this for *EVERY* actor/actress I feel like sending a ‘good job’ to?”
Possibly. Some have their own official websites, some hate fans, but I guess I’ll have to find out. On top of that what kind of method am I going to create for deciding who I go through the trouble of shoveling around the internet for if I have to physically write a letter? I suppose the list should be short then eh? I have a few people in mind.. but I also have a request. I know that there are a few people in the camwhores scene that may have some kind of info here or there on things of this nature, as a few of them are models in the area (or at least claim to be). A couple people from the tagbaord as well (qhefner?) are doing commercials and such and might possibly be able to point me in the right direction of a talent studio or an agency for someone which ultimatley would make my job easier.
Now I get about .. 40-50 uniques a day to this site. Im curious just how many of those uniques have any insight on this. It would be REALLY nice to get a jumpstart on things, or talk to someone with their foot in the door to the movie/tv industry. What I want to avoid is to take the regular path of a ‘fan’. I guess you could consider me one, but i am most certainly NOT the type to find an actor/actress and mail them saying “OMJ OMJ UR SO COOL I LUV YOU OMJ! CAN YOU SIGN MY FOREHEAD UR SO AWSUM! *jump jump*”. *shudder*.. no.. thats not me. I dont do that. I want to take more of a “Thank you for bringing me the satisfaction of watching a good show/movie. Great job, keep it up”.
Its just.. a direction I’d like to take. I’m really not sure where to begin how to approach this, other than making sure i have a handful of stamps and a printer (if i WRITE a letter nobody will be able to fucking read it). I could certainly use any help I can get and it would be very heartily appreciated.
Though in retrospect, it is kinda hard undertaking something like this without being an otaku.
Comments / feedback appreciated!
